Flying High Bird Sanctuary, Bird sanctuary in Apple Tree Creek, Queensland, Australia

Flying High Bird Sanctuary is a 2-acre facility in Apple Tree Creek with walking trails winding through rainforest settings where you move freely among approximately 3000 birds from many species. The grounds feature various aviaries and breeding areas that house species from different parts of the world.

The sanctuary was established in December 2002, starting with just 300 birds under dedicated care. Over the following years, the facility expanded with additional aviaries and breeding programs to support more species and larger numbers.

The sanctuary teaches visitors about native bird species and their role in the environment through interactive learning experiences throughout the grounds. These programs help people understand why protecting wildlife matters and how they can help.

The site is easily reached via Bruce Highway and Old Creek Road, and you should wear sturdy shoes for walking the rainforest paths. The grounds are large enough to explore for several hours, so plan for good weather and bring water.

The main aviary stands 7 meters tall and allows birds from Australia, Asia, and South America to fly freely while visitors watch from the walking trails. This setup creates a rare chance to see birds from different world regions living together in one naturalistic space.
