West Hill National Park, Nature reserve in Isaac Regional, Australia

West Hill National Park is a nature reserve on the Queensland coast with mangrove forests, wetlands, and salt marshes. The area features two shallow beaches separated by a wide creek mouth and bordered by rocky outcrops and natural barriers.

The park was established as a protected area in 2003 to safeguard the coastal habitats and wetlands of the region. This decision recognized the ecological importance of these mangrove landscapes for the surrounding marine environment.

The park serves as a refuge for birds and marine creatures that inhabit the mangrove forests and salt marshes. Visitors can observe how these natural habitats shape the coastal ecosystem.

The southern beach area can be accessed via a four-wheel-drive track across tidal flats, which requires appropriate vehicle preparation. Visitors should check tide times in advance and ensure their vehicle is suitable for rough terrain before attempting to explore this section.

The southern side of the park contains about 30 private wooden shacks scattered along the beach, an unexpected feature within a protected reserve. These structures reflect a long history of human use along the shoreline that coexists with modern conservation efforts.
