Urangan Pier

Urangan Pier is a bridge structure extending far into Hervey Bay with a wooden walkway supported by steel-reinforced pylons. It features designated fishing areas, benches for resting, and signs displaying information about the local marine environment.

The structure was built in the early 1900s as a loading dock for sugar, timber, and coal exports. It served as a vital commercial hub for many decades before ceasing operations in 1985.

The pier serves as a gathering place where locals and visitors spend time watching the bay and enjoying the waterfront. You will often see people fishing, walking, or sitting along the railings to take in the water and sky.

The pier is open daily to visitors and features public restrooms and multiple resting spots along the walkway. Access is free, and the wide pathway makes it comfortable for walking or lingering.

During migration season, marine observers often gather here to watch humpback whales passing through the waters. This yearly journey draws nature enthusiasts who may spot these massive creatures in the bay.
