Archer Park Rail Museum

Archer Park Rail Museum is housed in a former railway station built in 1899 on Denison Street in Rockhampton, displaying historic locomotives, carriages, and railway equipment across its spaces. The collection documents how rail transport developed and shaped the region over time.

The former railway station served as Rockhampton's main transport hub until the 1920s and supported the expansion of Queensland's rail network. This station played a key role in driving economic growth across the surrounding area.

The place uses digital soundscapes and life-sized figures to bring to life the daily activities of railway workers and passengers from the World War II era. Visitors can experience how people once interacted with trains and travel during this period.

The museum opens on Sunday mornings and Monday through Thursday and offers guided tours, a tea room, and accessible facilities for visitors. Plan time to explore the different exhibition areas and examine the historic vehicles closely.

The museum houses the last remaining Purrey Steam Tram still in operation, rebuilt from original parts of Rockhampton's tram fleet that ran from 1909 to 1939. This rare streetcar is a surviving piece of the city's forgotten public transport history.
