John M Headrick & Co Building

The John M Headrick & Co Building is a brick structure with a rendered facade divided into three distinct sections with varied window bays. Classical architectural details decorate the front, giving it the appearance of a substantial mercantile storehouse from the Victorian era.

The brick portion was constructed in 1894-95 to serve as office and warehouse space for the Headrick merchant company. Over the following decades, the building was adapted for different purposes while retaining its original framework and exterior appearance.

The building shows how merchants organized their trade and storage in the late 1800s. Its location on Rockhampton's main business street reveals where the city's commercial center once thrived.
