Pic Vincent

Pic Vincent is a mountain summit in southern New Caledonia that reaches 1620 meters in elevation. From the top, views extend across the island group and out toward the Pacific Ocean.

The mountain was mapped and named after French explorer Jean-Baptiste Vincent in the 19th century. This survey work helped establish early geographical records of New Caledonia.

Local Kanak communities maintain traditional practices near the mountain, including specific hunting routes and gathering locations passed down through generations.

The hiking route calls for sturdy shoes and plenty of water due to temperature swings at higher elevations. Weather-appropriate gear is important since conditions can shift quickly on the mountain.

The slopes here support plant species found nowhere else in the world. This makes the area an important focus for botanical research and conservation studies.
