Jacksons International Airport, International airport in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea
Jacksons International Airport is the primary aviation hub of Papua New Guinea with two terminals and four aircraft parking bays equipped with aerobridges for international flights. The facility is designed to handle both smaller and larger international aircraft operations.
The facility replaced the former Port Moresby airport in Waigani, developing from a World War II airfield into a modern complex. The current terminal building was constructed in 1959 and has shaped the nation's aviation activity since then.
The airport serves as the main hub for Air Niugini, the national carrier, linking Papua New Guinea to destinations worldwide. Visitors see here the daily operations that connect the region to the rest of the world.
The airport is located about eight kilometers from Port Moresby and offers services including duty-free shops, banking facilities, car rentals, and traveler information areas. Visitors should plan enough time for arrival, as walking distances between parking and the terminal can vary.
The airport has two runways, with the primary runway stretching over 2.7 kilometers long, enabling operations for major international carriers like Qantas. This capacity makes it a regional hub for connections throughout the Pacific area.
