Hegigio Gorge Pipeline Bridge, Suspension and pipeline bridge in Southern Highlands Province and Hela Province, Papua New Guinea.
The Hegigio Gorge Pipeline Bridge was a steel suspension structure spanning 470 meters across the Tagari River, reaching 393 meters above the gorge floor below.
Construction began in December 2004 and was completed by November 2005, officially opening in March 2006 to transport petroleum from the Southeast Mananda oil field.
The bridge represented Papua New Guinea's infrastructure development in remote highland regions, demonstrating engineering capabilities in challenging mountainous terrain and supporting resource extraction activities.
The bridge was closed following severe damage from a 2018 earthquake in Papua New Guinea and was demolished in 2023, ending its operational service.
This structure was the tallest pipeline suspension bridge in the world when completed in 2005, holding the record until the Sidu River Bridge opened in China in 2009.
