Nadi International Airport, International airport in Ba Province, Fiji.
Nadi International Airport is the main international airport on the island of Viti Levu in Fiji, located about nine kilometers north of the town of Nadi. It has two terminals and serves as the primary gateway for visitors traveling to the islands of the South Pacific.
New Zealand began building the first runways in 1939 to create a strategic air link in the Pacific. Later, American forces expanded the facilities considerably during World War II, and the site gradually developed into a civilian hub afterward.
The name Nadi comes from the local language and refers to the nearby town where the runways were built. Passengers often experience a relaxed atmosphere with wooden elements in the architecture and friendly greetings from staff upon arrival.
The terminals offer shops, food stands, and currency exchange for travelers waiting between flights. Taxis and rental cars are available outside the arrival hall, while buses run to nearby towns along the coast.
The facility coordinates air traffic control for a large part of the South Pacific and monitors flight movements far beyond the borders of Fiji. It plays a crucial role in aviation safety in one of the most remote regions of the world.
