Koroyanitu National Park, National heritage park in Lautoka, Fiji.
Koroyanitu National Park is a national park in Lautoka that covers approximately 25,000 hectares of mountainous terrain with unlogged tropical montane forest. The area features marked hiking trails, including routes to Mount Batilamu and several waterfall locations.
The area has been inhabited long before becoming a national park, and the six villages within it continue to play a key role in preserving the land. Local residents work on conservation efforts to protect the forest and its wildlife for future generations.
Six traditional villages sit within the park, where people have maintained their way of life for generations on ancestral land. Visitors who pass through these areas follow local customs, such as wearing a sulu, to show respect for the communities living there.
The park is easy to access and offers several hiking routes of varying difficulty suited for both beginners and experienced hikers. It is wise to bring sturdy shoes and water, as the trails pass through moist mountain terrain.
The area is home to rare bird species like the Purple-Breasted Musk Parrot and Pacific kauri trees, making it a special place for nature lovers. These plants and animals are found in only a few other places in the world.
