Keawakapu Beach

Keawakapu Beach is a white sand beach on Maui's southwestern shore, stretching for several hundred meters with clear water suitable for swimming and snorkeling. The fine sand and calm conditions create an inviting setting for water activities and leisurely beach time.

Native Hawaiians called this place Keawakapu, meaning 'forbidden cove', as it was designated as a restricted zone where settlement was not allowed. This designation reflected the traditional Hawaiian kapu system that reserved certain areas for specific purposes or sacred use.

The beach draws couples planning wedding ceremonies in traditional Hawaiian style, as the setting provides an ideal backdrop for photographers capturing celebrations by the water.

The beach can be accessed through three medium-sized parking areas located at convenient spots along the shore. Outdoor showers and restroom facilities are positioned throughout, making it easy to rinse off and refresh during your visit.

Strong storms can wash away sand from the shore, but natural ocean currents reliably restore it over the following months. This natural cycle keeps the beach continuously renewing itself without needing human intervention.
