Lake Cajititlan, Jalisco, Freshwater lake in central Jalisco, Mexico
Lake Cajititlan extends 9 kilometers in length and 2 kilometers in width, with a maximum depth of 4.5 meters in its center.
Spanish Friars established the Sanctuario de Guadalupe near Lake Cajititlan in the 1530s, with the first chapel dedicated to Virgin Mary constructed in 1561.
Local artisans in towns surrounding Lake Cajititlan maintain traditional crafts including rope making, basalt stone carving, and horsehair weaving for decorative items.
The lake supports multiple fishing communities and offers waterside restaurants where visitors can taste local fish preparations at modest prices.
During the Three Kings festival from December 31 to January 8, hand-carved figures process across the lake in boats, creating a water-based religious celebration.
