Holy Cross Cemetery is a burial ground of Catholic tradition in Culver City, California, that extends over a wide area with mausoleums and memorial gardens. Maintained pathways lead between the grave sites, bordered by lawns and scattered trees that provide shade.
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles founded this burial ground in 1939 to meet the needs of the growing Catholic community in the region. Over the following decades, the cemetery developed into a preferred burial location for numerous families from the greater Los Angeles area.
The section near "The Grotto" in the southwest holds many graves of film and television people, among them Bing Crosby, Rita Hayworth and Bela Lugosi. Visitors come to find these markers, and the cemetery welcomes self-guided tours of the grounds.
Access is via West Slauson Avenue, and the pathways are mostly level, making it possible to walk around without significant effort. A visit in calm weather during the morning offers comfortable conditions to explore the grounds at your own pace.
