Athenaeum at Caltech

Athenaeum at Caltech, Faculty club building at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, US.

Description

The Athenaeum is a faculty club building at Caltech in Pasadena with Mediterranean Revival style from the 1930s. The exterior displays stucco walls, tiled roofs, and ornamental details, while inside you find dining areas, conference rooms, hotel accommodations, and gardens for various gatherings.

History

Architect Gordon Kaufmann designed this building in 1930 as a meeting place for the Caltech community. It developed into a gathering spot for academics, guests, and researchers to connect and exchange ideas.

Culture

The discussion groups here bring together scientists and researchers to share ideas and learn from one another. These gatherings happen in a relaxed setting without pressure or competition between participants.

Practical

Access is usually limited to members and guests, so visitors should ask ahead about entering the building. The facility offers dining areas, meeting rooms, and pleasant gardens to explore if access is granted.

Did you know?

A guest room in the Athenaeum named after Albert Einstein has kept its original furnishings from the time of his visits to Caltech. This suite reveals how distinguished scientists were housed during their stays at the institute.
