Jessop's Clock, Street clock in downtown San Diego, United States
The 22-foot outdoor pendulum timepiece displays hours, minutes, seconds, days, months, and time zones across 21 different dials at Horton Plaza.
Joseph Jessop commissioned the clock in 1905, and Claude Ledger spent 15 months constructing it before winning a gold medal at the 1907 California State Fair.
The clock earned designation as San Diego Landmark number 372, representing the technical achievements and commercial heritage of early twentieth-century California.
The mechanism extends 12 feet below street level and receives automatic winding from an electric motor every eight hours to maintain precise timekeeping.
After its dismantling in 2019, the clock will join the San Diego History Center collection in Balboa Park, with a planned exhibition launch in 2028.
