Lemon Grove

Lemon Grove is a city in southwestern San Diego County that blends residential neighborhoods with small commercial areas throughout its layout. The landscape features typical suburban structures with local shops, schools, and open spaces woven into the community fabric.

The territory originally belonged to Mission San Diego de Alcalá before Robert Allison acquired it in 1850 and transformed it into farmland. Over the following decades, the area grew from scattered farms into an organized community.

The name reflects the citrus groves that once dominated the landscape and continue to shape local identity through community traditions. Visitors encounter a neighborhood that preserves its agricultural roots through public monuments and shared stories.

The city is accessible by trolley via the Orange Line, which serves two local stations and connects to the broader San Diego transit network. Alternatively, State Routes 94 and 125 provide direct road access for those arriving by car.

A large lemon sculpture originally created as a parade float in 1928 became a permanent public installation in 1930. This handmade figure has become the most recognizable symbol of the city and draws regular attention from passing visitors.
