Cerritos, Suburban city in Los Angeles County, United States
Cerritos is a residential community in Los Angeles County, California, spreading across roughly 23 square kilometers (8.9 square miles). The settlement sits between two major administrative regions and comprises several neighborhoods with single-family homes, schools and shopping centers.
The area was originally called Dairy Valley because the surroundings consisted mainly of dairy farms until the 1950s. After approval for residential construction, the community changed its name in 1967 to the current designation, derived from the Spanish word for small hills.
The performing arts venue at the heart of town welcomes visitors with a modern glass facade and hosts classical performances alongside contemporary shows. Many residents attend the productions and gather before or after evening events in the surrounding cafes and restaurants.
The community sits roughly halfway between downtown Los Angeles and the southern coastal towns, making car travel to both directions relatively straightforward. Visitors to the city find ample parking in the commercial districts and can move around easily with their own vehicle.
All car dealerships in town are located in a single area known as the Auto Square, allowing comparison of different brands and models within short walking distances. This concentration was planned in the 1970s and now brings considerable revenue to the administration.
