The community was founded in 1929 and officially incorporated in 1930 when early settlers developed a residential enclave directly along the coast. Close proximity to the ocean has created ongoing challenges with erosion and storm damage that have shaped the area's development over the decades.

The area is privately owned property with limited access for non-residents, so it is best explored from the street or nearby public beaches. The paved streets are flat and easy to walk if access is granted.
