Fullerton, University city in Orange County, US
Fullerton is a university city in northern Orange County with Mediterranean climate and an elevation of roughly 150 feet (46 meters) above sea level. The area covers about 22 square miles and connects residential neighborhoods with commercial districts and educational institutions.
The city originated in 1887 when George and Edward Amerige secured land for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway development. The settlement grew as a railway hub and developed into a center for education and industry throughout the twentieth century.
The Muckenthaler Cultural Center presents art exhibitions, performances, and educational programs in a 1920s Mediterranean-style mansion. Visitors experience rotating events throughout the year in the historic rooms and garden of the estate.
The Fullerton Transportation Center connects passengers to Los Angeles and other major destinations through Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner services. The city is walkable in downtown areas and around the university campus, making exploration on foot convenient.
Leo Fender developed and manufactured the first mass-produced electric guitar in his radio repair shop during the 1940s. The location of this shop still stands in town and marks the beginning of a revolution in music history.
