City of Industry, Charter city in Los Angeles County, United States.
City of Industry is a charter municipality in Los Angeles County, California, covering nearly three square miles of industrial parks and commercial districts. The territory contains more than three thousand businesses operating across multiple zones dedicated to manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution activities.
The area was originally part of Rancho La Puente, a land grant given to William and Nicolasa Workman in 1841. Local business owners founded the municipality in 1957 with the intention of creating a community focused exclusively on industrial development.
The Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum presents collections and exhibits documenting the early development of the San Gabriel Valley region.
The municipality sits near several major highways and two railroad lines, making it accessible for business travelers. Visitors interested in industrial architecture or logistics can drive through the expansive commercial districts to observe the structure of this unusual community.
The municipality counts around 260 permanent residents but provides employment for roughly 67,000 people, making it one of California's least populated places. This contrast between minimal residential population and high workforce numbers defines the character of the place as a purely industrial zone.
