Ontario Motor Speedway, Motorsport racing track in Ontario, California, US
Ontario Motor Speedway was a racing facility that combined a large oval track with an infield road course configuration. The venue could accommodate more than one hundred thousand spectators in grandstands positioned along the straightaways and turns.
The track opened in the early 1970s and hosted major events from American racing series for a decade. It closed in the early 1980s and was later redeveloped into residential and commercial districts.
The speedway hosted the California 500, drawing 180,000 spectators for the first complete 500-mile IndyCar race held outside of Indiana.
The former site of the track is located in the eastern part of the Los Angeles region and is now fully developed with buildings. Visitors to the area will find streets and structures that reference its earlier use.
The site later became known as the Indianapolis of the West because it hosted similar events in the western part of the country. After closure, some grandstand sections and infrastructure were relocated to other racing venues.
