Avondale

Avondale is a city in Maricopa County in the western Phoenix metropolitan region. The community sits at 297 meters above sea level and spans desert landscape with residential neighborhoods and commercial areas.

The settlement was founded in 1880 by William Moore near the Agua Fria River under the name Coldwater. It was incorporated as Avondale in 1946.

Multiple school districts serve Avondale's population of 89,334 residents, reflecting the educational priorities of this growing Maricopa County community.

Interstate 10 runs through the northern section and connects the city to downtown Phoenix and major employment centers. The flat desert terrain makes it easy to navigate around the city.

Monument Hill holds a surveying marker of the Gila and Salt River Meridian, an important geographical reference point. This location marks a significant survey line that was used in mapping the American West.
