Phoenix Raceway, Motorsport racing track in Avondale, United States
Phoenix Raceway is a motorsport track in Avondale that follows a tri-oval layout measuring one mile around, with banked turns and a bend in the back straight. The venue offers seating for tens of thousands, along with suites, camping zones, and a hilltop viewing area called Monument Hill.
The track opened in 1964 to bring major racing to the western United States, starting with open-wheel events. A major rebuild finished in 2018 reshaped the facility and secured its place as the host of the championship finale from 2020 onward.
Fans gather here for the season finale, camping on site and following a tradition that began when the track first secured this key race date. Many visitors return year after year, making the event a reunion as much as a sporting contest.
The track sits on the southwest edge of the metro area, accessible by car with large parking lots available. During race weekends, arrive early to avoid congestion on the approach roads and allow time to find your seating section.
A survey marker sits on Monument Hill, registered as a historic landmark and still used as a reference point for mapping the region. Visitors can walk up to the marker and see the brass disk embedded in the ground, a quiet link to the site's role beyond racing.
