Sahuarita, Town in Pima County, Arizona, United States
Sahuarita is a town in Pima County, Arizona, spread across both sides of Interstate 19 in the Santa Cruz Valley south of Tucson. The town combines residential neighborhoods with agricultural land and includes the Titan Missile Museum within its boundaries.
The area was first inhabited by the Hohokam people, then shaped by Spanish colonial presence, and officially founded as a town in 1911. The community grew gradually over nearly a century before incorporating as a municipality in 1994.
The name comes from the saguaro cacti that dominate the landscape and reflect the natural character of the Sonoran Desert. These distinctive plants shape how locals and visitors perceive the area.
A visit to the Titan Missile Museum typically takes two to three hours and provides the main attraction within town. Getting around the area requires a car, as the town is designed around highway access and spread-out neighborhoods.
Continental Farm, established in 1915, shifted from rubber production to cotton and now operates extensive pecan orchards that shape the local landscape. This transformation reflects how regional agriculture adapted to changing markets over more than a century.
