Reloj de flores

The Reloj de Flores is a working timepiece in Guatemala City whose face is completely covered with flowers and positioned at an angle for easy viewing. The hour, minute, and second hands move across a floral mosaic made from carefully selected plants that bloom year-round.

The clock mechanism was manufactured by French company Lamy & Lacroix in the 1800s and became operational in 1965 under Mayor Francisco Montenegro Sierra. This made it one of the city's pioneering public art installations.

The floral clock reflects how locals value the blend of nature within their urban surroundings and serves as a gathering point for daily life. People stop to read the time while appreciating the colorful arrangement of blooms.

The clock sits at the intersection of Boulevard Liberacion and 6th Avenue in Zone 9, a central location accessible to pedestrians from multiple directions. It remains visible throughout the day and can be viewed from several angles.

The flower composition is carefully maintained so the clock face remains fully bloomed year-round, requiring constant upkeep behind the scenes. This ongoing renewal of blooms keeps the installation looking fresh and prevents it from ever appearing wilted.
