Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno "Carlos Mérida"

The National Museum of Modern Art is a museum of contemporary art in Guatemala City that displays paintings, sculptures, and lithographs. Works come from both Guatemalan and international artists.

The institution began in 1934 as the National Museum of History and Fine Arts. It relocated to its present building on the La Aurora estate in 1968.

The museum's name honors Carlos Mérida, a painter whose works occupy a dedicated gallery space where visitors can explore his artistic vision. Local and regional artists are prominently featured throughout the collection.

A large mural titled Glorification of the Quetzal adorns the museum building and stands out as one of its most striking features. The work reflects the cultural importance of the quetzal bird in Guatemalan identity.
