The National Museum of Modern Art houses a vast collection of contemporary artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and lithographs from Guatemalan and international artists.
Founded in 1934 as the National Museum of History and Fine Arts, the institution moved to its current location at La Aurora estate in 1968.
The permanent collection features works by prominent Guatemalan artists, with a special gallery dedicated to Carlos Mérida's original paintings and lithographic reproductions.
Located five minutes from La Aurora International Airport, the museum opens Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with different hours on weekends.
The museum displays the Glorification of the Quetzal mural, created twenty years ago, alongside works from eighty different Central American artists.
