Playa Corcovado, Strand in Costa Rica

Playa Corcovado is a beach in Puntarenas Province, Costa Rica, known for its soft golden sand and gentle waves suitable for swimming and relaxing. The long sandy stretch runs along a quiet bay bordered by lush forest and green hills that slope down to the water.

The beach lies near Corcovado National Park, a protected area established decades ago to preserve the forests and coastline from development. This designation transformed the region into one of the most biodiverse places in Central America.

The beach serves as a space where local traditions and respect for the sea are passed down through generations, with residents maintaining a deep connection to the land and ocean. This relationship shapes how visitors experience the place, encouraging thoughtful behavior and a genuine appreciation for the natural surroundings.

The beach is best reached by four-wheel drive vehicle along roads that sometimes cross rivers, or by plane to nearby airports such as Puerto Jiménez. It is wise to arrive early, bring plenty of water and food, and book lodging near the park entrance in advance.

Humpback whales and dolphins appear in nearby waters during certain seasons, making the coast an unexpected spot for viewing marine mammals. The rare combination of rainforest and marine life in close proximity creates an ecological wonder found in few other places.
