Acacías

Acacías is a municipality in Meta Department situated roughly 28 kilometers south of Villavicencio and roughly 126 kilometers from Bogotá. The town sits at 498 meters elevation and has a population of approximately 88,000 residents.

Acacías was established in 1920, taking its name from the native acacia flowers that grew abundantly in the area. The settlement developed into a municipality that built its early identity around this natural feature.

The International Joropo Tournament brings together performers and dancers to celebrate the traditional music and dance styles rooted in the region. This event reveals how deeply local residents connect with their musical heritage and regional identity.
