Armenia is a city in Quindío Department, located in the Colombian Andes and known as a center of coffee production. The city sits at an altitude of 4550 feet (1387 meters) above sea level, surrounded by green mountains and coffee plantations that stretch across the landscape.
The city was officially founded as a municipality on October 14, 1889, following the arrival of settlers from Antioquia. This colonization brought people to an area previously inhabited by the Quimbaya culture.
The Gold Museum displays numerous Pre-Columbian artifacts from the Quimbaya civilization, presenting the metallurgical techniques of ancient indigenous communities.
El Eden International Airport connects the city to other Colombian destinations through regular flights. Local buses run to nearby coffee plantations and neighboring towns in the coffee region.
