Andes, Municipality in Southwestern Antioquia, Colombia

Andes sits in the western Colombian Andes at about 1,360 meters elevation and spans terrain with varied topography and tropical vegetation. The landscape features lush green hills, winding mountain roads, and scattered settlement areas across the region.

Pedro Antonio Restrepo Escobar founded Andes on March 13, 1852, as a new administrative area in Southwestern Antioquia. From that time, the area grew into an important agricultural center serving the larger region.

The town takes pride in local artists and writers who have shaped the region's cultural life. Visitors encounter a community that keeps its artistic traditions alive through everyday conversations and gatherings.

The place sits roughly 117 kilometers from Medellín and can be reached via mountain roads using local transport options. The climate stays mild year-round with frequent rainfall, so waterproof clothing and sturdy footwear are useful for exploring the area.

The area has become one of Colombia's major coffee-growing centers, with coffee farming making up most of the agricultural output. This focus on coffee shapes everyday life and the local economy in ways visitors will notice throughout the region.
