Barbosa is a municipality in the mountains of Santander Department, situated at 1,575 meters elevation. The town spreads along the Suárez River between the slopes of the Eastern Cordillera.
The town was founded in 1940 by Heliodoro Barbosa as a new settlement in the region. It followed the earlier establishment of Cite, which Martin Galeano had settled in 1539.
