Apartadó, Municipality in Urabá region, Antioquia Department, Colombia.
Apartadó is a municipality in the Urabá region of Antioquia Department, northwestern Colombia. The territory sits at 30 meters elevation and extends across flat lowland terrain near the Caribbean coast.
Established in 1907, the territory grew from scattered farming settlements into a commercial gateway. The 20th century brought growth through trade routes connecting the lowlands with mountainous regions.
The name comes from indigenous language meaning "river of plantains", connecting visitors today to centuries of farming tradition. Local markets still center around the crops that gave the municipality its original identity.
The Antonio Roldán Betancourt Airport offers connections to several cities across the region. Visitors will find lodging and services mostly in the urban center, while rural zones consist mainly of plantations.
Humidity remains consistently high throughout the year, creating lush growth around the clock. Pineapple fields here look different from those in other tropical parts of Colombia due to the particularly moist conditions.
