Ituango is a municipality in the mountains of Northern Antioquia, spread across rugged highlands with significant elevation changes. The urban center sits at roughly 1,550 meters above sea level and serves as the main hub for the surrounding region.
The settlement began in 1844 as La Aguada, functioning as an administrative subdivision within the Sabanalarga district. It later adopted its current name and developed into an independent municipality.
The area is home to the Jauidukamá indigenous reserve, where traditional corn-based rituals shape daily life and visitors can observe customs tied to regional celebrations.
The town sits about 190 kilometers from Medellín and connects to surrounding areas through regional roads. The climate remains moderate year-round, which can feel refreshing for visitors from warmer regions.
