Chicamocha Canyon, Natural canyon in Santander Department, Colombia
The Chicamocha Canyon extends for 227 kilometers through northeastern Colombia, reaching depths of 2,000 meters with limestone cliffs and steep walls.
The canyon formed during the Early Oligocene period, approximately 30 million years ago, when tectonic activity and river erosion shaped the landscape.
The indigenous Guane people left their mark on the region through rock art paintings that remain visible on the canyon walls today.
The Chicamocha National Park provides access to the canyon from Wednesday to Friday between 10:00 and 18:00, and weekends from 09:00 to 19:00.
The canyon contains a 6.3-kilometer cable car system that transports visitors across the deep valley, offering views of the surrounding landscape.
