Quadiriki Caves, Limestone cave system in Arikok National Park, Aruba
Quadiriki Caves form a network of three separate chambers within Arikok. Two of the chambers receive light through natural openings in the ceiling, while the third remains completely dark.
Ancient Arawak people left petroglyphs carved into the limestone walls of these caves. The engravings show how long this culture lived on the island.
The name comes from the Arawak language and connects to a story about two lovers who met in secret within these chambers. These caves held deep personal meaning for the original people of the island.
The caves are located within Arikok National Park and are best explored with a guide who shows the best route through the chambers. The interior can be slippery and cool, so sturdy shoes and a jacket are helpful.
Natural ceiling openings let light beams travel slowly through the darkness, illuminating hidden stalactites and stalagmites. These light displays shift throughout the day, creating constantly changing scenes.
