Buffalo Gap Historic Village

Buffalo Gap Historic Village is an open-air museum featuring original buildings from the late 19th century that show various aspects of life in this Texas community. The structures span different periods of settlement history and remain in their original form or have been carefully restored.

The village emerged as a trading and administrative center in the 1870s and briefly served as the county seat for Taylor County. It was later overshadowed by another town that became the main seat of government, leaving this place to preserve a moment of early settlement history.

The buildings display furnishings and objects from different decades, giving a sense of how people in this region lived and worked. You can see how homes, kitchens, and workshops changed over time.

The museum grounds are easy to explore on foot with paths connecting the various buildings. You can walk through the displays on your own or check if guided tours are available to learn more about individual structures.

A special feature is the pharmacy with original bottles and labels from around 1900, showing what remedies were offered for illness. This collection offers a rare look at medical care in rural areas before modern times.
