Genaro P. and Carolina Briones House

The Genaro P. and Carolina Briones House is a two-story residence on East 7th Street in Austin with elaborate concrete decorations across its exterior walls. The facade features tinted concrete with textured patterns that resemble natural stone surfaces.

The house was built between 1947 and 1953 after Genaro Briones learned techniques from renowned concrete artist Dionicio Rodriguez in Memphis. This collaboration shaped his craft style and influenced the appearance of his own residence.

The house displays Mexican-American craftsmanship through its decorated concrete elements, which Genaro Briones shaped with his own hands. These decorative techniques reflect cultural connections between Texas and Mexico, telling stories of family pride through visible skill.

The house is located in East Austin and visible from the street, with the concrete facade best viewed in daylight. As a private residence, it can only be observed from the exterior.

The concrete facade represents the largest collection of tinted concrete ornamentation in Texas, showcasing handmade experiments with color and texture. Such elaborate homemade concrete decorations are rare in America and make this a special exception.
