Belton is a city in Bell County, Texas, serving as the administrative center for the county. It sits within the Killeen-Temple metropolitan area and functions as a regional hub for the surrounding communities.

The settlement started in 1850 as Nolanville and was renamed Belton in 1851 after Texas Governor Peter H. Bell. During the Civil War, the town maintained a notable pro-Union minority that backed Sam Houston's opposition to Texas secession.

The Belton City Council, consisting of seven elected members who receive one dollar annually, meets twice monthly to address community matters.
