Belton Lake, Reservoir in Bell County, US
Belton Lake is a large reservoir on the Leon River covering about 12,400 acres with steep rocky shorelines throughout. The water body offers numerous fishing areas and coves to explore.
The lake was created in the 1950s when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built a dam for flood control. The project also helped supply drinking water to nearby communities.
Miller Springs Nature Center near the lake showcases local plants and animals through walking paths where you can spot herons, eagles, and other water birds throughout the year.
The shoreline has multiple recreation areas with boat ramps, campgrounds, and picnic spots for visitors. Access is easiest during drier months when the roads and paths are in good condition.
Specially designed structures sit underwater to create habitat for fish populations. These artificial reefs help support healthy numbers of bass and catfish below the surface.
