Tomball, County administrative center in Harris County, Texas.
Tomball is a city in Harris County, Texas, that spreads on both sides of FM 2920 and State Highway 249. Residential areas alternate with shopping centers and small businesses, while parks and schools are scattered throughout the municipality.
The city was originally named Peck and was renamed in 1907 to honor Thomas Henry Ball, a lawyer who supported the construction of the Port of Houston. The discovery of oil in 1933 changed the economic foundation and attracted new residents.
Every December the city center transforms into a German Christmas market where visitors can sample mulled wine and buy handmade goods. The event reflects the German roots of many families who settled in this area.
Most shops and restaurants line the two main roads that run through town and are easily accessible by car. Many facilities have spacious parking lots in front of the buildings, making access straightforward.
The local fire department organizes a large parade every spring where antique fire engines from different decades drive through the streets. Many of these vehicles have been restored by volunteers and are still operational.
