Conroe is a county seat in Montgomery County, Texas, located about 40 miles (64 km) north of Houston within the forested Piney Woods region. The surroundings feature pine forests that cover large areas and give the landscape a green character.
The discovery of the oil field in 1931 fundamentally changed the local economy and ended decades of timber industry dominance. The new petroleum production brought workers and companies to the region and shaped the further development of the town.
