Azle, city in Texas, United States
Azle is a city in north Texas that extends across parts of both Tarrant County and Parker County. It is made up of residential neighborhoods, commercial strips along main roads, and scattered green spaces throughout.
Azle was established in the late 1800s when settlers moved into the rural lands of north Texas and began forming small communities. The town grew steadily through the 20th century as Fort Worth expanded outward and more people moved to the surrounding area.
Azle sits close to the Fort Worth metro area but feels like a town on its own, with a pace of life that is noticeably slower than the city nearby. Local shops and diners along the main road give a sense of everyday community life that visitors can easily observe.
A car is the most practical way to get around, as public transportation is very limited in this part of Texas. The main commercial areas are along the central roads, which makes them easy to find once you are in town.
The name Azle comes from a local doctor named James Azle Stewart, who settled in the area in the 1800s and gave the town its name from his own middle name. It is unusual for a town to take its name from someone's middle name rather than their family name.
