Eagle Mountain Lake

Eagle Mountain Lake is a large reservoir near Fort Worth with a long shoreline and multiple access points. The water is deep enough for boating, and five marinas provide equipment rentals and maintenance services for visitors.

The lake was built as a response to a devastating flood that had struck Fort Worth years before. Dam construction started in 1930 and was finished two years later.

Sailing races happen throughout the year on these waters, drawing water sports participants from across Texas. The lake has become a popular destination for people who enjoy competitive boating.

Water conditions are safest on clear sunny days, especially mornings when fewer boats are on the water. The marinas are accessible from different entry points, and planning ahead helps with parking and access.

During World War II, the military used the eastern shore for specialized training where pilots learned to fly specific aircraft. This chapter in the lake's past is rarely remembered today, yet it played a role in the wartime effort.
