Vintage Flying Museum, Aviation museum at Meacham International Airport, Fort Worth, United States.
The Vintage Flying Museum houses around 30 preserved aircraft displayed in a reconstructed World War II-era hangar at Meacham International Airport. The planes come primarily from the war and early postwar years and show varying stages of restoration work.
The museum was founded in 1990 when its creators acquired a B-17G Flying Fortress in 1979 as the beginning of their collection. This beginning led to the development of one of only a few institutions preserving these aircraft for public viewing.
The collection tells the stories of the people who flew and maintained these aircraft during a period that remains vivid for many visitors. You can experience these personal histories simply by walking around each plane.
The best way to explore the museum is to spend time with each aircraft type and read the information posted at each one. The grounds are easy to navigate, and visitors should wear comfortable shoes since there is considerable walking involved.
Among the aircraft here is the FIFI, one of only two B-29 Superfortress bombers still capable of flight in the world. This makes the museum a rare place where you can see this legendary machine actually operate during special flight events.
