Heritage Park Plaza, Historic landscape plaza near Trinity River, Fort Worth, United States
Heritage Park Plaza is a landscaped site with interconnected concrete pathways, geometric outdoor rooms, and cascading water channels arranged across multiple terraced levels. The structure creates different spatial experiences as it descends the hillside.
The site was established in 1976 for the U.S. Bicentennial and marks the location of Camp Worth, a military post that stood there in 1849. Its creation connected the city's newer identity with its original role as a military settlement.
Water features and inscriptions in the space tell the story of the area's military past, showing how the designer wove local heritage into the landscape. The layout invites visitors to encounter these connections as they walk through.
The plaza has been closed since 2007 undergoing major renovation work that includes pedestrian improvements and street reconfiguration. Check current conditions before visiting to learn when it becomes accessible again.
A planned Canopy Walk will create a zigzag path descending the bluff, leading visitors to changing views of the Trinity River valley below. This new feature will strengthen the connection between the elevated plaza and the riverbanks.
