Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Contemporary art museum in Fort Worth, United States.
The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is a museum for contemporary art in Fort Worth, Texas. Five flat glass pavilions stand over a water basin that mirrors the low roofs and concrete surfaces.
The institution began in 1892 as a library with an art gallery and moved several times. The current building opened in 2002, designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
Visitors see paintings and sculptures from the years after World War Two, showing how artistic languages changed over decades. Groups of works by single artists often hang in rooms with white walls and quiet lighting, letting each object speak for itself.
Entry leads through three pavilions with changing exhibitions and permanent collection rooms. Wide passages and the nearness of water create quiet moments between galleries.
Large Y-shaped supports made of exposed concrete carry the roof and leave narrow gaps between surfaces. These joints allow soft daylight and avoid closed corners.
