Waxahachie, Historical district in Ellis County, Texas, United States.

The Ellis County courthouse stands in the center of Waxahachie, featuring Richardsonian Romanesque architecture with red sandstone and granite materials.

Established in 1850 as the county seat, Waxahachie grew substantially after the arrival of the railroad line in 1875, transforming into a regional trading center.

The Scarborough Renaissance Festival attracts thousands of visitors annually with period entertainment, artisan demonstrations, and traditional medieval marketplace experiences.

Lake Waxahachie provides recreational opportunities including fishing, camping, and water activities, with multiple access points around its shoreline.

The city was selected for the Superconducting Super Collider project in 1988, with construction beginning before Congress canceled the initiative in 1993.
