Celestial Park, Neighborhood park in Addison, Texas, United States
Celestial Park is a small neighborhood park in Addison, Texas, covering about four and a half acres at the corner of Celestial Road and Bellbrook Drive. It has a jogging trail, stone benches, and a short set of stairs with carved quotes and poems that climb toward a circular human sundial made of flat stones.
The park was created as a neighborhood green space on the north edge of Celestial Road, and its current layout reflects a period of small-scale park building in Addison. Its focus on astronomy came later, with the engraved steps and human sundial added as permanent features.
The short staircase near the center gives the park its character, with lines about stars and time carved into the risers as you walk upward. At the top, the flat sundial invites you to find the stone marked with the current month and use your own shadow to read the hour in the sun.
Parking is limited to a few spaces along Celestial Road in front of the Addison Pump Station, so arriving on foot or by bike is often easier. The park has no support for large gatherings or organized sports, making it better for a short stop or a quiet walk on your own.
The human sundial only works if you stand on the correct month stone, and it does not account for daylight saving time, so the shadow reading can be off by an hour for part of the year. The poetic lines on the steps are easy to miss if you enter from the street side and head straight to the lawns.
