Terrell, Railroad city in Kaufman County, Texas, United States
Terrell is a city in Kaufman County, Texas, about 32 miles east of Dallas. The place sits at roughly 440 feet elevation and covers flat terrain with residential neighborhoods, commercial strips, and a few parks.
The city began in 1873 when the Texas and Pacific Railroad was built through the area and took its name from an early settler. Over the following decades it grew into a regional trade center along the rail line.
The annual Terrell Jubilee takes place in Ben Gill Park, featuring barbecue competitions, craft exhibitions, and musical performances each April.
Several highways pass through the city, including Interstate 20 and U.S. Highway 80, offering quick connections in all directions. A walk along the main street shows shops, cafés, and public buildings that are easy to explore on foot.
During World War II the city hosted the No. 1 British Flying Training School, which trained Royal Air Force pilots. The airfield, now Terrell Municipal Airport, retains some traces of that period.
