Lake Tawakoni State Park, State park in Hunt County, Texas, US.
Lake Tawakoni State Park is a Texas state park in Hunt County, east of Dallas, set along a large reservoir. The grounds combine oak forest with open shoreline areas, and include boat ramps, campsites with hookups, and a small on-site store.
The land became a park after the Sabine River was dammed in the 1960s, forming the reservoir the park sits on. Texas Parks and Wildlife opened this site in 1984 to give nearby communities access to the lake.
The park sits along a large reservoir and draws families and local anglers who spend time on the water or along the shore. Guided nature walks let visitors observe local wildlife and plants at close range.
The park is easy to get around, with marked paths and separate areas for camping, fishing, and boating. Visiting in the warmer months means more activity along the shore and better conditions on the water.
In 2007, visitors discovered a massive communal spider web here that covered trees and shrubs across a large area of the park. Communal webs of that scale are extremely rare, and researchers came to study it as an unusual example of spider behavior.
